Securing your home against pests

Some time spent preventing pests can save a lot of stress because after infestation occurs, it is very difficult to eradicate it.

Examine

It’s important to find any entrances that are being used to get into your property, so go on a hunt around your entire home, including all the nooks and crannies. Check the foundations and if you find holes or cracks, these need to be filled immediately. Mice can enter through a tiny gap so make sure you do not overlook any gaps, no matter how small they may seem.

Doors and Windows

Rats and mice will happily use any hole they can find to get into a warm, cosy home, so make sure you also check out the window and door seals. Any seals that are worn should be replaced as old weather strips could present an easy way to get through. Pipes

Vertical pipes in your home provide the perfect way into your property for rats. Rodents excel at climbing so you could consider painting pipes with a high gloss paint to stop them from being able to scale the pipe. Also available are guards designed to prevent rodents from climbing the pipes.

Food

Be careful about getting rid of garbage and food outside in the bins, as well as inside the home. If you have pets, make sure you clean up the leftovers from their bowls, so it is not left to attract other creatures. Lidded bins are the best solution, both inside and out and make sure they are not allowed to overflow.
