How to Konmari your wardrobe

By now you have probably heard of the Konmari method to clearing out your space. If you have looked at the Dorset Fitted Wardrobes that you have in your bedroom and long to have them more organised take a look at these tips to have your wardrobe tidy and organised in no time at all.

  1. Categorise your items

After you have removed all of the items from your wardrobe it is important that you then categories your clothing. This means placing all your skirts together, your dresses together and so on.

  1. Does it spark joy

Hold each item in your hands in turn and ask yourself whether it sparks joy. In other words, does it make you happy. If you have a dress that you haven’t been able to fit in for years and everytime you look at it you feel less confident in yourself then now is the time to get rid of it.

  1. Organised sections

After you have decided whether an item sparks joy you should place it either in the to keep pile or the too recycle or donate pile

  1. Hang items up

Return all the items you are keeping back to their hangers and arrange as you prefer in your wardrobe.

Using the same method in the garage

The approach that works for a wardrobe works just as well in a garage, which for most households has become a store for bikes, old furniture and garden tools rather than a place for the car. Start by moving everything into one large pile in the middle of the floor so you can work through it systematically.

Before you sort, put shelving up around the edges. Then take each item in turn and decide whether to keep it, donate it or throw it away. Be honest about whether you will really use something again.

Items you keep go on the shelves, where they are protected from damage and easy to find next time. Once the shelves are filled, take the donations to a charity shop and dispose of the rest. The result is a garage that can hold the car again, or be turned into a usable extra room.
