High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is something that many people live with all over the world. It can be dangerous and lead to very serious health problems. High blood pressure can be something that people have inherited, or it can be brought on by lifestyle factors.

There are lots of things that can be done to reduce your risk of getting hypertension, or if you already have it, things that you can do to reduce it or stop it from worsening. There are many medical studies and trials going on all the time to find a way to combat high blood pressure, such as adaptive phase 1 studies like these but there are also things that you can do yourself to reduce your risk, as well as improving your health overall – here are some ways you can do this…

Reduce how much alcohol you drink – Alcohol is responsible for a wide range of health problems, including high blood pressure. The effects that it can have on the body when consumed in large amounts can be very severe and over time this can increase the risks of other conditions. Reducing the amount of alcohol that you consume is a great way to not only lower your blood pressure but also will help your moods and mental health, as well as your liver function.

Exercise Regularly – Your health is hugely improved with regular exercise, and of course it also has a positive effect on your blood pressure. Cardio exercise in particular is great for blood pressure. This doesn’t have to be hours spent in the gym either if that isn’t your thing. Sports like tennis and swimming are great forms of cardio exercise, so have a think about ways to incorporate more exercise into your life – even something as simple as using the stairs rather than a lift when you can!

Get plenty of sleep – Sleep is another essential that affects our overall health as well as blood pressure. Having a good sleep and bedtime routine is a crucial part of making sure that you can get a good night’s sleep. Turning off all devices before bed such as phones and televisions, having a relaxing bath and practising meditation are all great ways to help to wind down before bed.
