What men and women should wear at the races.

Although not compulsory, when attending a race meeting it is seen as appropriate and part of the race day experience to dress smartly.  For the gentlemen, especially if going into the enclosures, it is expected that they dress within the accepted code.  A smart shirt with a collar and tie, a pair of tweed trousers, shiny, brown or black shoes or boots, a jacket or blazer and to finish off the outfit a traditional irish cap from a company such as https://www.shamrockgift.com/mens-clothing/irish-flat-caps.

For the lucky ladies attending the big race days, it’s a chance to dress glamorously and go as glitzy as possible, complete with a big hat for Ladies Day at Royal Ascot of course!  Elegant and flouncy pretty dresses, high heels, spectacular jackets with a matching handbag and wrap if the weather is a little chilly. Of course, each carefully chosen outfit must consider, not only the occasion but the time of year and the weather.  If attending the Newmarket or Kempton Races in the summer, then a lightweight dress, high heels and matching handbag is perfect.  Attending the Newbury Races in the winter months then a smart trouser suit, boots and a warm pashmina or coat may well be more appropriate.

The race meetings at Royal Ascot have a strict dress code and men should be expected to wear a proper suit with top hat and tails alongside their female counterparts who should wear a pretty, colourful, flowing dress with matching shoes and handbag.
