Half-Day Guide to Bibury Beyond Arlington Row

There’s probably only one photo anyone comes to Bibury for, and it has some lovely honey-coloured Cotswold stone homes in the background that date from a bygone era. This half-day guide means you can linger for longer, pause and enjoy a bit of elbow-room in an otherwise popular, crowded little village.

1) Start early (or late)

Since Bibury is so small, timing makes a huge difference. Arrive either before 10 am or after 3 pm for a less chaotic stroll and a more solid place to park. Consider the benefits of Cotswolds Private Tours. Visit Cotswold Tour, who supply these Cotswolds Private Tours.

2) Walk the River Coln

Arlington Row followed by a pleasant riverside walk. You get nice bridges, water meadows and less crowded viewpoints – plus a good way to avoid the peak bottlenecks.

3) Explore the village lanes

The answer is to move away from the big road and make a calm circle in quiet side streets. Look out for:

Honey-stone cottages and cottage gardens

Small footpaths linking lanes

Quiet spots for pictures with no one in the background

4) Pop into St Mary’s Church

If open, it’s worth a quick peek. There is seldom much of a queue, and within its grounds it offers tantalising views back over the village.

5) Grab a simple lunch

A café snack, pub lunch or picnic by the river (weather reliant). Weekdays bring peace, in comparison to weekends.

6) Finish with a nearby extra

Just one more thing, if you have time, go for an easy walk or viewpoint or another village nearby that won’t involve trying to see half of the Cotswolds at once.

Bibury is one for a slow wander, not checking places off a list.
